Extensions What You Need to Know About Extensions ✓ If you need additional time to file your tax return an Application for an Automatic Extended Time to File (Form 4868) can be filed. This extends your filing deadline until October 15, 2023. ✓ Extensions must be filed by April 17, 2023. ✓ An extension can also be filed for your state and local tax returns. ✓ The extension only extends the time you have to file your paperwork. It is NOT an extension to pay your tax liability. Your unpaid tax is due by April 17, 2023.
Our office will not file an extension automatically. We will need your permission for this. If we haven’t heard from you this year, an extension will not be filed by our office.
What to Do If You Expect to Owe Always file your tax return by the deadline. Failure to do so will result in penalties being assessed on the amount due. If you are unable to pay the balance due, contact our office to discuss your options.
